German Knockwurst — also spelled Knackwurst — is a plump, fully cooked pork-and-beef sausage with the satisfying "snap" that gives it its name. Ours is prepared to a traditional German recipe right here in the USA and shipped fresh from our New Jersey warehouse, so you get authentic German flavor without the wait.

What Is Knockwurst?

Knockwurst is a short, thick German sausage, typically made from a finely ground blend of pork and beef and seasoned with garlic and traditional spices. The name comes from the German knacken — "to crack" or "snap" — describing the audible pop of the firm casing when you bite in. It's a close cousin of the frankfurter, but shorter, plumper, and more robustly seasoned.

What's in Our Knockwurst?

Ours is a fully cooked, uncured blend of pork and beef, seasoned much like our frankfurters. Each pack contains four sausages in an approximately 1 lb package, made by The Alpine Inc to a traditional German recipe in the USA. We use high-pressure processing (HPP) — cold water under high pressure — to extend shelf life naturally, without added preservatives.

Knockwurst vs. Knackwurst — What's the Difference?

Essentially none — they're the same sausage. Knackwurst is the traditional German spelling, while knockwurst is the Americanized version you'll see in US delis. Either way, you're getting the same garlicky, snappy pork-and-beef sausage.

How to Cook Knockwurst

Because our knockwurst is fully cooked, you're simply heating it through. Simmer gently in hot (not boiling) water for 8–10 minutes, or pan-fry, grill, or griddle until browned and hot all the way through. Serve in a roll with mustard and sauerkraut, or alongside potato salad for a classic German plate.

Where does it ship from? All fresh sausages and meats ship from our own warehouse in Little Ferry, New Jersey.

How is it packed? Every order goes out in an insulated box with frozen gel packs. Cold packaging is always free – no packaging or handling fee.

How fast is it? 2-day express via UPS or FedEx, depending on your address. Many East Coast addresses receive their order in 1–2 days.

When does it ship? Monday to Wednesday (Thursdays for addresses close to New Jersey), so your package never sits in a depot over the weekend. Orders placed later in the week ship at the start of the next week.

When it arrives: Please bring the package inside promptly and refrigerate or freeze the sausages right away. If it arrives warm or damaged, email a photo to help@onestopgermanshop.com within 24 hours and we'll make it right.
