Deutschländer, the Classic German Sausage in a Jar
Meica Deutschländer — also written Deutschlander without the umlaut — are among the best-known sausages in Germany, sold in a glass jar and ready in minutes. They are mild, finely emulsified pork and beef sausages in the Wiener Würstchen style: the German equivalent of a hot dog, but firmer, smokier and far better seasoned. Meica has been making them since 1888.
Heat them gently in hot — not boiling — water for about eight minutes, then serve them in a soft roll with German mustard, or alongside sauerkraut and potato salad.
