It carries no preservatives, nitrates or artificial colouring. Ours is made to a traditional Bavarian recipe in the USA and ships cold in an insulated box with ice packs.

To eat it the Munich way, slit the casing lengthways and lift the sausage out with a fork — the casing itself is not eaten.
