Thüringer Bratwurst, the Sausage of Thuringia

Thüringer Bratwurst — also spelled Thueringer or Thuringer — comes from Thuringia in central Germany and is one of the country's most famous sausages. What sets it apart from a Bavarian or Franconian bratwurst is the seasoning: all pork, with whole caraway seed and marjoram, which gives it a warmer and more aromatic character.

Grill it over medium heat until the skin cracks and chars, then serve it in a crusty roll with German mustard — in Thuringia the mustard goes on before the sausage. Serve with sauerkraut or red cabbage. Browse all our German sausages.
